Utah Division of Corporations | Business Entity Search

The Utah Division of Corporations and Commercial Code’s business entity search page enables visitors to run a query against its database. This aids online users to quickly verify if a name is currently in use by an active entity and even give access to some of its public records. While this will give the basic information immediately onscreen, additional information may be obtained depending on the user’s needs.

1. Visit The Utah Division Of Corporations And Commercial Code Business Entity Search Page

2. Access The Query Tool

Locate the “Search Business Entity Records” link and select it.

3. Furnish The Requirements For Your Search

To begin a basic search, indicate how the query must treat the term being sought in relation to the information contained within the database by selecting one radio button.

  • Starts With
  • Contains
  • Exact

Once this is done, any of the text boxes provided may be populated with the term the query must find.

  • Name
  • Entity Number
  • Domicile Name
  • Assumed Name
  • Principal Name
  • Registered Agent Name

At least one of these fields must be populated. When the information is entered, either a basic query can be engaged using the “Search” button or the “Advanced Search Options” tab.

If electing to conduct an advanced search, review the area that opens once this is selected. Indicate whether the query should allow only business entities by selecting the first radio button then select the definitions from the dropdown menu to describe the entity the query must find.

If inactive names should be included, locate and mark the checkbox. Also, note that date fields are available to define the entity’s dates of existence, as well as any specific status date of note. Once the requirements of for a basic or an advanced search have been met, select the “Search” button.

4. Find The Search Phrase Or Utah entity Name In The Results

Scroll through the records that appear in the table results. Each of these Utah entities will be presented with basic details across the columns that make up this table.

  • Type
  • Subtype
  • Entity Number

Once you find the Utah business name, select it from the first column.

5. Review The Utah Business Entity’s Details

Review the information in the sections displayed on the entity information page. Begin with the first area where the entity is described.

  • Entity Name
  • Entity Number
  • Entity Type
  • Profession
  • Entity Status
  • Entity Status Details
  • Status Updated On
  • Domicile Name
  • Jurisdiction
  • Formation Date
  • Formation Effective Date
  • Renew By Date
  • Last Renewed Date
  • Expiration Date

Next, review the information provided regarding the entity’s registered agent.

  • Name
  • Registered Agent Type
  • Entity Number
  • Status
  • Street Address
  • Last Updated

Also, notice the final area where the entity’s “Principal Information” is displayed.

Below these areas, three buttons allow access to additional information.

  • Filing History
  • Name History
  • Merger/Conversion
  • Associated DBAs

When the “Filing History” tab is opened, it displays a summary of the entity’s details, as well as information defining its past filings. Note that some filings can be viewed as a PDF by clicking the magnifying glass icon at the end of the row. Use the buttons at the bottom of this page to go “Back,” revisit the results, or return to the search tool.

A new page with a table of details showing the entity’s past names opens when the “Name History” button from the information page is chosen. To view additional information, use the “Back” button to return to the entity’s details.

The “Mergers/Conversion” button opens a page where the table at the bottom displays several pieces of information on any such actions taken by the entity.

If the “Associated DBAs” button is selected, a new table opens and displays the names under which the entity has or currently does business in the State of Utah.
